WISH SENSEO HAD TRUE SAMPLE PACKS:

Having had the Senseo Coffee maker for about 2 years now, I have been frustrated with the need to buy 16-18 of a particular flavor to try something out. Online, this is even more so the case as all are sold as packs of 4 of 16 or 18, so it is a bigger risk. That rant aside, at least this is a mixed pack.

HOW TO RATE SOMETHING THAT IS A FLAVOR, YOU NEED TO KNOW WHY FIRST:

For me to rate something that is "flavored" let me first quantify my preferences.

I like a strong but non-bitter coffee flavor. So often I think coffee smells better than it tastes. I take my coffee with no sugar but lots of creamer or evaporated milk. For the most part, I like most of the Senseo coffees, except for those that include sugar, as that is not what I put in my coffee. So consider this first when you listen to what I thought of this product.

MY RATING DUE TO MY OWN PREFERENCES

This Variety pack was a nice mix and to be honest, I did not notice a major difference between any of these flavors except for the Kona.

The Kona coffee has a full-bodied coffee taste, strong but not bitter. I plan to get a case of this one. The rest, are mild, have a nice crema, but don't really stand out from one another. They were good as all the Senseo coffees are, but not as good as the Kona.

I like the senseo cappuccino pods that go with my senseo coffee maker. It is a good way to enjoy a cappuccino without having to go out to purchase a cup. I recommend this coffee if you want a pleasing cup of coffee but it is not strong starbucks type coffee. It is more mild but still very good.

I have been using this item for almost a year. I am disabled and usually homebound - but I like good coffee, hate using pods, and have a senseo. What a great product! Never any problems unless coffee ground too fine or overfill the pod - then water spitting all over kitchen! Doesn't matter what type of sale coffee I use - still great! I do microwave the milk in my mug first though for hotter coffee. Highly recommend!

Ok - this will never really make as good a cup as a Saeco super automatic but,, for a $500 savings I can certainly live with it.

When the Senseo eventually dies, I can just go to the thrift store and get another one for $10...

We also own a Bialetti Brikka pot for later in the day when I want a (really, really) good cup with "Crema". Check the reviews here on Amazon.

PROS:

1. If you are reasonably careful filling your Duck, no leaks or spills will occur.

2. Play around with different amount of coffee/cup size setting combos, and you can get a pretty good flavor to suit your style.

3. Hit the switch and enjoy the savings....

I'm basing my review on the product, and not the value for the current list price, which is [...].

I've used a Senseo for about 4 years and have owned this product for about 1 month. The advantages of this coffee maker is the convenience of having a hot cup of coffee in about 30 seconds with little preparation. You just pop a coffee pod in, press a button and viola! Toss the used pod away, and your machine is ready for the next cup. Simple.

I do, however, have some reservations with this machine.

Noise: It's too loud for my liking, but only for the few seconds of brewing. It's pretty quiet, otherwise.

Clean up: This particular model seems to leak often but not in a huge quantity. I'm comparing this to the older model I had several years ago, which never leaked at all. Having a cream colored counter, it goes without saying that cleaning coffee stains off of it nearly every day negates the convenience of a throw-away, single serve coffee pod.

Coffee pods: Senseo coffee is sub par, compared to the coffee offered from their competitors. This company made a big mistake in not partnering with name brand coffee makers. To me, availability of pods is also an issue. In my area, I cannot find any varieties other than medium and dark roast. To boot, their coffee pods are pricey. Right now I'm paying 6 bucks for a pack of 18 pods. This certainly beats the price of ready brewed coffee, but is more expensive than buying your own beans and grinding them yourself. That being said, I bought a set of Ecopads and would definitely recommend them as a cheaper alternative to pods. I used to have a Presto Mypod refillable coffee filter which also worked well in these types of machines.

Water well: The reservoir that comes with this machine is too small, and has to be refilled too often. I would recommend the extra large water tank available through Amazon.

All in all, this product is sufficient and I will continue to use it as it was free, and serves my purposes just fine. I wouldn't, however, recommend paying 50 dollars for this particular machine.

We have this machine, bought in 2004 and used 2-3 times a day. It still works fine, but it's white and we wanted a black one to match our new kitchen appliances. So the old one goes into storage in case the new one breaks down.

There are a lot of so-called "single-serving" coffee makers on the market today. My wife and I have been very select coffee drinkers all our marriage - nearly 30 years. We started with a beautiful La Pavoni expresso maker, which we still have although we had it completely overhauled about 8 years ago.

When we saw the Senseo we thought we'd try it because it seemed much less trouble - although we were highly suspicious of anything that made coffee from "pods" because we were used to grinding our own coffee from beans stored in air-tight containers in the freezer and each cup of coffee we made was made from freshly ground beans.

From the very beginning we were impressed with the Senseo. Push a button and 90 seconds later the water for coffee is at temperature. Push another button and you have a fresh cup of delicious hot coffee, complete with a nice "creama" or frothy top just as you would get from an espresso coffee machine. The single serving button gives you a cup a little larger than the single serving espresso you typically get - say in a Parisian or Italian coffee house. This may not be enough for American coffee drinkers used to a large mug of coffee. If not, you can push the "double" button and get either a large cup of coffee or two small cups the size of an espresso drink described above. Coffee pods come in all strengths (light, medium, dark roast), flavors etc. and are sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Safeway etc. and online at Amazon and lots of other places.

The pods come 18 to a package and a package costs about $4.75 - $5.25 depending on how many you buy and where. That averages about 25-30 cents per cup of coffee if you choose the single serving button - twice that for the double serving button. This is more than if you make drip coffee or do espresso with fresh ground beans, but I think it's worth the convenience. The resulting cup of coffee is really good - rich, hot, flavorful and frothy. We used "Dark Roast" but tastes vary.

As I said earlier, our 6-year-old machine still works pefectly and we use it every day, at least twice but more often quite frequently.

When we have guests we sometimes go back to the automatic drip coffee maker so we can put a whole pot of hot coffee on the table. But even then, if guests request, we can make cups so fast that it's no problem to serve 4-6 guests a hot cup, all done within 4-5 minutes.

We recommend the senseo to friends without reservation.

However, there is one thing you must remember if you use this machine - and this is probably true for any machine: If your water has a lot of minerals in it - especially calcium - you must clean this machine periodically. The instructions say every 90 days - but where we live the calcium builds up quickly so we do it about every 60 days. This is important. A friend of ours through out his machine because he said the coffee started tasting bad and I'm sure sure it was because he wasn't cleaning the machine at all. It's easy to clean - just run half vinegar and half water through it once, and then pure water once. All you do is put in the vingegar and water, then push both buttons (the single serving and the double serving) and the machine pumps all of the water / vinegar solution through the machine without stopping. Of course, you have to be sure it has a contained below large enough to receive all of this liquid.

Also, depending on the mineral deposits in your water, you may need to push a needle or pin through the pod holder drain hole once in a while because sometimes a grain of coffee or calcium build-up clogs the hole.

The machine comes with a reservoir tank for water, two pod holders (one pod and two pods) and a supply of coffee (one package of 18 pods).

You can order accessories for the machine, which include:

A double sized water reservoir (I recommend it highly), replacement pod holders, and a specil pod holder for making espresso coffee especially. You can also buy other replacement parts, but there are only two other parts besides the reservoir and pod holders. These two parts are the small overflow or spill catcher plastic part and a metal "grill" where you sit the coffee cup.

The new machine we ordered from Amazon (in black rather than the white one we already had) has one difference from the machine we bought 6 years ago: the spout where the coffee comes out it shorter, making it higher from the grill where the coffee cup sits. This is an improvement because now you can sit a large mug under the spout whereas the old machine made this difficult because the spout extended down quite far - made to accommodate short little demitasse (sp?) or espress cup sizes. You can still use these smaller cups with the new spout but now you can also use a large mug if you want a "full-size" cup of coffee.

Summary Good Points:

1. The coffee is very good.

2. The coffee maker is very reliable. Our first one has worked without fail for 6 years and is still working. We just wanted a different color.

3. The coffee maker works very fast. A fresh cup of coffee from "0" to finished cup in about 3 minutes. After the first cup, the next cups can be made in less than 1 minute.

4. The price is far below most other single serving coffee makers: We bought our new one from Amazon in April 2010 for $49 with no cost for shipping.

5. The price for each cup of coffee is below any other single serving coffee makers that I have researched. This coffee maker costs between 25 and 30 cents per cup. Double that if you make a typical American "mug" sized cup of coffee.

6.Coffee pods are available at Wal-Mart, Safeway, Targe and other major chains. You can buy a "pod-maker" which allows you to make your own pods. This may be cheaper but we prefer the convenience of commercially produced pods since the coffee is still very affordable even if you buy the pods ready-made.

Caveat: Coffee will turn bad if you do not perform simple regular cleaning - i.e. run half vinegar/half water through the machine at least every 90 days. Every 60 days is better if you live where the water has high mineral content and creates build-up in the machine. If you have a water softener or filter or use bottled water this may keep the machine cleaner longer.

Summary bad points:

We have had good experience with Philips products. They are a Dutch company (perhaps owned by the Royal Family, I'm not sure) and they seem to research companies and then buy them. Some examples are this Senseo machine and their Sonicar electric toothbrush.

Except for their TV, we have had good experience with Philips products. We bought a Philips TV and a Philips DVD/VHS player. The TV works OK but we can't get the player/recorder to work with the TV. When we called their support line the only suggestion they had was to buy another player. So for TVs and DVD/VHS player / recorders we stick to Japanese products.

But the Senseo coffee maker is an excellent machine and we recommend it highly.

Just bought our second Senseo from Amazon. The first one (bought way back when it was first introduced) still worked, but had developed a small leak and would leave a bit of water on the counter. We really enjoy having a fresh cup of coffee every time and we never have leftover coffee to throw away. Love the crema that forms on the top of the cup. By getting our pods from Amazon through their grocery subscription plan, we never run out and they are cheaper than the store. Couldn't be happier.

For my first senseo coffee to break down and the second which is replace by amazon which almost exploded. Please for the safety of your family please read.

I am so happy that Amazon is now carrying the international coffee blends for Tassimo. This coffee is hands-down my favorite and only preference for the Tassimo machine. This is a very common blend of coffee, very similar in taste to Maxwell House but without the hangover effect I seem to get from Maxwell House. It is a Canadian Columbian blend coffee established in the late 1800s much like the beginnings of Maxwell House. It just seems to have a smoother taste and no after effect of a headache or upset stomach, like I tend to get with Maxwell House. I am drinking Maxwell House now because I simply am out of Nabob and was not ready to reorder, yet. At this great price, I am not hesitating to order-up!

Visitors to my house do enjoy Seattle's Best Henry's Blend and Starbucks Verona, if they prefer a stronger blend of coffee. Starbucks is the strongest and needs dilution for some, though. If you consider the Jacobs' discs, the Monarch is much like a demi-cup (small) of an Austrian chocolate-hint coffee. Kroenig is for those who know and prefer the german taste. The coffees and lattes from Jacob's are light tasting in my opinion. I prefer a capuccino from a very upscale machine rather than those from Tassimo, but the Gevalia brand does suffice for caps, lattes, and hazelnut flavor coffee. Jacobs' tends to be quite listless in taste.

For hot chocolate, the Milka german brand is good because it adds a creamer. While the Suchard is a non-creamy packaged hot chocolate sweetened with Splenda. They both suffice for out of the box style hot-chocolate.

Tassimo is a great "get-you-by" in the morning machine. It is decent, efficient, and reliable. If you like caps from machines like Miele or Nepresso or if you like good beans in a morning press, you will be dissapointed with Tassimo. Tassimo is what it is, a good one-cupper and Nabob is a smooth daily coffee that is definitely my favorite.

I saw this machine at my friends office. It's awesome. With the touch of one button it sucks in the cold milk, heats and froths it into your cup, then grinds the whole bean coffee, then extracts a beautiful rich espresso into your cup. This beats Starbucks or any restuarant that has served me an espresso or cappuccino.

In investigating the company I realize that they are the #1 maker in Europe of commercial super automatic espresso machines. I called their office in Peachtree City, GA and learned that they have this machine in several restuarants and businesses across the country.

Although it's expensive, it's the absolute best espresso/cappuccino machine that I've seen in the world...therefore I bought one.

The functionality and results of this machine makes me want to recomment it to anyone who is serious about entertaining, serving serious beverages to their clients at their office, etc. If the price scares you, buy the Capresso entry level machines, but if you are a serious player this one is for you.

This X7-the office workhorse-is nothing else but AWESOME!
We have one at our office and I love that it has 2 hoppers and 2 grinders.
I can have my decaf without the trouble of taking out and replacing the regular beans or using a powder by-pass.
Also, hot, frothy, professional cappuccino at the touch of a button!
No more steam wands for me, trying to get the froth just right.
